Welcome to Kanjon's Clips - One Year In

Hello there, artist, or… future artist! My name is Mt Kanjon, and I want to show you how to draw. Anyone can learn, it’s as simple as building a skill. Over the past few years I’ve started to learn to draw myself, and I’ve discovered that there are so many secrets to learning art that aren’t really documented. Tips that beginners learn, but forget as they advance as artists. Not just the technical skills that you’d learn in art school (which, psst – you don’t actually need art school) but how to stay motivated in a crazy world where everyone wants to paint the next big thing.

I’m a kinda short-attention span person, and I like bite sized tips about… sorry, what was the line again? static beep I like quick tips that I can use right away, and I want to share what I’ve learned with you! With easy videos that you can learn from and be entertained by. Today marks the one-year anniversary of this series and this is the fifty-second video I’ve made! In the past year we’ve talked about so many things: Getting started with the fundamentals. What supplies to buy. How to treat bad art that you make, and how feeling like an imposter is normal. Crazier ideas like drawing in the dark, and creating the weirdest things that you can. Technical secrets like flipping and rotating your canvas. Heck we even get into ADHD, something I’ve recently discovered I actually have.

If you’re a long-time viewer that’s stuck with it, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. If you’re just watching this for the first time, welcome! Don’t be daunted by all of the videos to watch; find the ones that look interesting to you. I’ve also put together a companion website in the description that has video transcripts along with links to my favorite learning resources and supplies.

If you’re new, I know what you’re thinking: Kanjon, are you a fu– furrrry? Yes, silly. But that doesn’t mean I’m going to be teaching you art “for furries”. You learn the fundamentals of art and you can draw and paint anything you want. I like to draw adorable fluffy animal people. All there is to it.

Let me tell you my goals of this series: First, I’m helping YOU learn to draw. We’re not using AI image generators – that’s just not art and is missing the point. Second, I’ll give you tips, resources, and direction, but since I’m still a bit of a beginner, I won’t bullshit you with “expert” technical advice that I don’t have: only the skills that are actually useful for learning to draw. Third, I want to keep this content accessible, so every video gets transcripts and extra resources. Finally, I want to have fun and I want you to have fun. I’m open to feedback and suggestions, and hope to keep making things better and better. Art is always changing, and I’m always happy to revisit subjects that people want to hear with a new perspective.

Back in my very first video I mentioned that I had at least 40 ideas for videos about art. I’ve made way more than that and my to-do pile is even bigger. (Without context, seeing that notes archive might make people concerned for my well being.) We’re still just getting started: I hope you’ll subscribe and share with your friends! I’m so excited you’re here, and I hope I can help guide and motivate you on your path to improving as an artist.
